Fleet News :: Fleet News: The Bade Report
Fleet News

A reliable source who'd like to be left anonymous has revealed that during a recent encounter with Cylon raiders, two colonial military ships were not fired upon or pursued after being scanned.  The source would say no more on the topic, though you don't need to be the Admiral to figure out this is proof that Cylon's are among us.  Now that we know where, we can only hope that action will be taken.

In other news from the fleet there was unconfirmed reports that Commander Perry, unloaded his sidearm into the Observation Lounge window after seeing a raider.  It has been reported Commander Perry yelled "Die your Legend Killer" before shooting the window.    When asked to comment on this story the military was unavailable.

Rumors are flying about two pilots both from the same graduating class, both in the command element being possible Cylons or what some refer to as Humaniod Cylons.  These reports were denied by high ranking officials in the fleet stating there are no Cylons or Cylon agents in the Colonial military.

Fleet News :: Fleet News Exclusive: 5 minutes with Mizzy Sideways
Fleet News

After a stressful experience on Pacifica, I spent the entire evening before my interview with the Colonel reading up on protocols and procedures.  It would be nice if my tour of Pacifica`s brig was my last.  Despite all my preparation and the two glasses of red Ambrosa, I was still nervous.   However, "full clearance" to travel from the XO set the table for a completely different experience. Even as I passed through Pacifica, the crew just smiled and went about their business.  I arrived on the Brunnhilde greeted by the Colonel herself.  No guards, just her. I experienced a fuse shortage of some sort in my head, and got stuck somewhere between a salute and a hand shake nearly poking out my eye with my thumb.    Our hands finally met and she told me I could relax with a smile, allowing me to release the giant breath I'd been holding back.  After a tour of the great flagship and a few incredible stories, I sat in the XO's office and got to ask a few questions I thought my fellow Civi's might like to hear.

OFFICIAL FLEET NEWS TRANSCRIPT

JB: So I want to thank you again for this opportunity.
Mizzy Sideways: You asked nicely
JB: If you're ready I'd like to begin
Mizzy Sideways: Ok
JB: How long have you been in charge of the Brunnhilde?
Mizzy Sideways: Since we found her
JB: So its always been in your command. Are you still happy here?
Mizzy Sideways: I started on the Pacifica, after the attacks on the colonies and recovered from wounds during that attack
JB: I see, were you badly wounded then?
Mizzy Sideways: My viper was shut down and ejected
JB: Does your ship have a unique role or function in the fleet?
Mizzy Sideways: The hilde is the flagship of the fleet
JB: I see, so are all the main command decisions also made here?
Mizzy Sideways: currently
Mizzy Sideways: On the hilde yes
Mizzy Sideways: I am her XO
JB: Who do you report to then?
Mizzy Sideways: Fleet Admiral Nephilim
Mizzy Sideways: is the commander her
Mizzy Sideways: here
JB: When was the last Cylon attack, are their any attempts being made at peace? Is it possible?
Mizzy Sideways: Peace with the toasters, doubt it
JB: Hmm, that's unsettling
Mizzy Sideways: they keep coming after us
JB: What is our status as it stands now. Are we safe here on Sanctuary? Shouldn't we keep moving?
Mizzy Sideways: We can hold it due to the ragnork effect
JB: If I can move to another topic for a moment
JB: What are your thoughts on the trial of Ensign Bade, do you think justice has been done?
Mizzy Sideways: It was a military matter
JB: And so you won't comment on it ? I just want to be clear
Mizzy Sideways: No comment on that trial to protect him
JB: I understand
Mizzy Sideways: two bade's sorry
JB: Do you have a message of any kind you'd like to send to the civilians of the fleet or anyone else for that matter?
Mizzy Sideways: The colonial fleet will protect you against the cylons anytime and anywhere
JB: How is the morale of your crew?
Mizzy Sideways: Good
Mizzy Sideways: I am proud of them
JB: Do you find it difficult being the XO of the flagship?
How is your morale?
Mizzy Sideways: Standard XO morale
Mizzy Sideways: I think my old XO said right once
JB: Well on behalf of all the civilians in the fleet, I'd like to thank you and all the military for keeping us safe. Most people really appreciate it, I hope they know that.
Mizzy Sideways: ill pass it on

In sad memory we note the passing of Laureline Laval, Captain, Squadron Commander, Quiet Hero of the Fleet. She valued teamwork, honor and truth. On of her joys was training nuggets how to pluck a downed pilot out of space. The fleet morns the loss of one of its finest. She was a humble hero who made a quiet exit that will be felt by all who knew her to the depth of thier souls.

The memorial service will be held Thursday, November 6 at 3pm SLT in the 7th Heaven Dome.

Fleet News :: Planet Settlement Ready
Fleet News

Sources have revealed that a Kobol-like planet which is rich in resources was discovered a few weeks ago and explored by small teams of civilians and military personnel. Survey teams  found that it has intense electro-magnetic field effects in the atmosphere. Similar effects were discovered by Ragnar and found to be debilitating to Cylons.

Due to our critical need for fuel reserves, the Tylium Queen has been landed for mining operations and some agricultural prefabs and military command posts have been created.

The fleet will remain near the planet and will rely on Pacifica and Brunnhilde to protect us in case some Cylons approach. Expect some incursions by Cylons, who may be able to resist the effects for short periods of time.

The planet has been named "Sanctuary" by the survey teams, a name that has been embraced by all the people who worked on the build out.

The shuttle service has been changed to visit the surface, and colonists are encouraged to visit.

Fleet News :: Hostage Crisis Ends in Death
Fleet News

August 23, 2008

A tragic scene was played out today in the Dome of 7th Heaven when a madman took Admiral Angelica Nephilim and Major Syr Villota hostage in the dome. The perpetrator, Xanadu Crosby, was an ex-crewmember of Brunnhilde assigned to electronics and security. He managed to force the 7th Heaven Dome blast doors closed by sabotaging to the blast detection mechanism.

He demanded to speak to President Tanya Halberd, who was forced to negotiate for the prisoners' release. The gunman demanded full amnesty, that the original pre-war logs of the Brunnhilde be read over fleet wireless, and that all alcoholic consumption in the fleet be prohibited.

Commander Heidi Stiglitz assumed command of the fleet and quickly assembled surveillance, engineers and marines to rescue the two officers.

When it was determined that the lone terrorist had successfuilly prevented the blast doors from being opened, President Halberd was forced to negotiate. Over fleet wireless, she agreed to the gunman's demands, much to the surprise of waiting marines.

Commander Stiglitz then proceeded to read exerpts from the log of the Brunnhilde. In a shock to all present, the logs revealed the the  Brunnhilde had been sent across the Armistice Line before the Cylons attacked the colonies. The implications of this revelation are staggering.

Once the reading was completed and President Halberd promised to honor the other terms of the demands, the madman opened the blast doors and heroic marines rushed in. A gun battle ensued and the terrorist was killed. Marine private Burton Hotaling was wounded in the exchange. Not hurt were Lt. Artemus Carthage and Captain Kyle Asbrink who also risked their lives to save Admiral Nephilim and Major Villota.

Our thanks go out to them and all those who put themselves in harms way for our safety every day!

Fleet News :: Discussion on Fleet's Future Held
Fleet News

August 3, 2008

Saturday, July 26th, President Tanya Halberd, Admiral Angelica Nephilim, Captain Gaius Gisaku, CSA Director Frostbite Pikajuna, Colonel Marcus Perry, FNS reporter Devlin Vollmar and a few others discussed the possibilities of turning the Fleet’s attentions away from the hopeless search for Earth and instead redirecting the Fleet on a more attainable goal of settling a hospitable planet.

When questions arose from the discussion about the safety and security risks of colonizing, Admiral Nephilim stated, “With an early warning system and two Battlestars, not to mention the ground installations we could muster, we'd be a hard nut to crack.” She then continued by explaining the benefits of creating a new home “base” by settling on a planet. “We would be fully at strength.”

Pikajuna spoke briefly of the Fleet’s depleted Tyllium storages while considering the redirection, “I think we need to look at things objectively. Does Earth exist? Maybe. But we don't have the resources to search for it. Were we to entrench…we could gather the resources.”

Colonel Perry explained the need for Civilian participation within the redirection of the fleet. “We would have to erect defense installations, an industrial base…a whole functioning base in a matter of a very short time to not leave us defenseless. The brunt of that work will have to fall to the civilians. The military would help in every capacity but it is still [the military’s] job to keep the forward defense up while that happens.”

New Chief Engineer of Celestra, Zaldon Barbosa, spoke up about the civilian workload, “I would be happy to do my part.” The workload for the Civilians would be heavy, but the benefits may outweigh the extreme labor. A new home, freedom from the persecution of the Cylons, and a chance to start over may entice many in the Fleet.

Fleet News :: MIA Honored at Memorial Service
Fleet News

26 July 2008

Today was a sad moment in the fleet as we observed the sacrifice of our brave brethren: Commander Syakumi, Major Mechanique, Warrant Officer Mastroianni, and Captain Isidis.

The memorial service opened in the Seventh Heaven “upper dome” with a few words from President Tanya Halberd regarding the bravery and the sacrifice of the assumed missing in action. Admiral Nephilim offered words of encouragement saying that “Our fellow soldiers did their duty, knowing sometimes sacrifices must be made to protect the greater whole.”

Following the opening comments, Junior Lieutenant Sue McCullough played “Amazing Grace” on her bag pipes to honor the fallen.

Individuals were given the option to comment openly about our brave heroes. Lastly, the memorial service was sealed with a final salute from the military ranks. Gods rest their souls wherever they may be.

Fleet News :: 7th Heaven Captain WIndy Weiland Killed by Cylon Attack
Fleet News

July 28, 2008 - 7th Heaven Captain and Picon Quorum Representative Windy Weiland was tragically killed yesterday while on a routine flight from 7th Heaven to Pacifica. Reports indicated that DRADIS showed clear at the time of Captain Weiland's departure from 7th Heaven. However, moments after her departure, a frantic warning from Pacifica Executive Officer Colonel Marcus Perry that cylon raiders had jumped into the area. Fleetwide alarms immediately sounded, vipers launched and guns from Pacifica and Brunnhilde both opened fire.

Tragically, the raider escaped the wrath of the battlestars and attacked the shuttle. Reports indicated that Captain Weiland attempted to make Pacifica but at 11:39 a frantic and static-laden call from Captain Weiland said the ship had been hit.  The raider then ran clear of the area. At 11:41, 7th Heaven Executive Officer Daze Columbia reported over wireless that Shuttle 652 had disappeared from DRADIS. Viper Pilot Captain Argo Blanco confirmed the lack of a DRADIS signal and shortly thereafter reported sighting a debris field above 7th Heaven.

At that point, DRADIS reports showed the raider had returned and was once again attacking the fleet. Captain Blanco shortly afterward reported the raider had been destroyed.

As the tragic reality set in that the shuttle had been destroyed, Civilian Pilot Frostbite Pikajuna launched in EVA suit to begin recovery operation. Just as she entered the debris field, Pikajuna's shuttle was also attacked, suffering damage to the hull.  Pikajuna was suited, however, and was able to escape the attack. The raider mysteriously broke off the attack and left the area.

Despite a damaged shuttle, Pikajuna was able to recover some pieces of the wrecked ship which were returned to Pacifica. Human remains found on the debris were examined by Dr. Edie Harrop, who confirmed what everyone feared:  The remains were compared to fleet DNA records and confirmed to be those of Captain Windy Weiland.

Tears, broken radio calls, anguish became the dominant sound over both civilian and military wireless channels.  Tearful choked acknowlegements from 7th Heaven Executive Officer Daze Columbia dominated the airwaves. Then, breaking through the traffic came the call from Captain Serapis, Windy's husband.  A choked voice, having just returned from working on shuttle updates on the Aerelon Sun came the words "CIC Celes..." (choking heard here on tape) "Celestra actual  "  (long delay with mic open) " I just got back..what happened???" For a moment, the radio went silent.  Then Colonel Perry finally broke the silence with his saddened response that the Admiral was on the way.

Captain Serapis, tightly clinging to daughter Shannon Lani, unable to control the mix of tears, emotion and anger, told Admiral Nephilim that he must relinquish ties with Fleet Security and CSA.  "I have Shannon to think about now. I am her only living family." In response to discussion about negotiations with Cylons, it was reported that Captain Serapis resonded with extreme anger: "Talk to them with nukes. Find every fr-----g base star, every resurrection ship. Blow them out of the universe".

Ironically, another attack occurred during Admiral Nephilim and CSA Director Pikajuna's visit to Celestra. The raiders in this attack were met by enraged viper pilots and gunners and quickly dispatched, though two vipers were damaged in the process requiring rescue.

Captain Weiland's death leaves 7th Heaven Executive Officer Daze Columbia in command pending confirmation from FTL Enterprises. It is speculated that Celestra Executive Officer Shara Diener will assume Captain Weiland's responsiblities as Shuttle Flight Certifier.  Diener was recently certified as a flight instructor.

Captain Windy Weiland is survived by her husband, Celestra Captain Starbuckk Serapis and daughter Shannon Lani Serapis. Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced as soon as they have been established.
